With mobile number portability, you retain the same number and change to the desired network.
The procedure is very simple.
In Step 5, it has been mentioned that you'll get porting date and time through SMS. However, in practice you might not get an SMS. Just wait for the network in previous SIM to go away and then insert the new SIM. Probably, it'll be activated (or wait for the network to appear). Complete the activation procedure if required - this might include calling customer care for tele-verification.
MNP can now be done across any network across the country.
The
service provider for Zone-2 has made available online request tracking status.
The Zone-2 includes the states of- Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar (includes
Jharkhand), Karnataka, Kerala, Kolkata, MP (includes Chhattisgarh), North East
(includes Arunachal Pradesh / Manipur/ Meghalaya / Mizoram / Nagaland / Tripura),
Orissa, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu including Chennai.
The other states are covered in Zone - 1. The request status for Zone-1 can not be tracked online.
In case you're porting your number between the states which are in different zones, you can track it online if your donor operator is in Zone - 2.
Update: Porting to Jio
You can port any connection to Jio prepaid or postpaid. Many retailers are telling that you can not port from BSNL. Some are telling that Jio is not offering postpaid yet. There is no such case. Just find the nearest "Jio office" (not a retail store) and get the job done.
