Mobile Number Portability (MNP)

With mobile number portability, you retain the same number and change to the desired network. The procedure is very simple.  In Step 5, it has been mentioned that you'll get porting date and time through SMS. However, in practice you might not get an SMS. Just wait for the network in previous SIM to go away and then insert the new SIM. Probably, it'll be activated (or wait for the network to appear). Complete the activation procedure if required - this might include calling customer care for tele-verification. MNP can now be done across any network across the country.  The service provider for Zone-2 has made available online request tracking status. The Zone-2 includes the states of- Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar (includes Jharkhand), Karnataka, Kerala, Kolkata, MP (includes Chhattisgarh), North East (includes Arunachal Pradesh / Manipur/ Meghalaya / Mizoram / Nagaland / Tripura), Orissa, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu including Chennai. Credit Card - Why or why not?

"From what I heard about it, I am never going to get a credit card for myself", said a colleague. I remembered having the exact same thoughts a few year ago. So, what is this that make us apprehensive about the credit card ownership? Easy credit availability and excessive rates of interest in such a manner that the user can go bankrupt. It is not that simple. Read on to find out. A credit card have a lot to offer to the users. There is no trap by the banks. However, some users do not try to understand the basic Terms and Conditions and fall under huge debt. It offers interest free credit for 30-50 days (depends on card). So, its interest free, what's the problem? Let's say a statement cycle is from 1st to last day of a month. The statement for expenditure is generated on 1st February for period 01 Jan to 31 Jan. The due date for payment is, say, 10th Feb. So, for expenditure on 1 Jan, you pay on 10 Feb, i.e. after 40 days. And for expenditure on 31 Jan, y...

Leh, Ladakh - a trip of a lifetime

Remember Kareena Kapoor Khan slapping Phushuk Wangdoo (Aamir Khan) in 3 Idiots or Anuskha Sharma taking a dip in a lake, only to freeze immediately and be saved by Shahrukh in Jab Tak Hai Jaan. The pristine Leh in the Ladakh region of Jammu & Kashmir in India is a dream trip for many. It stays a dream for long and does not come true easily for most. Why? The town Leh can be reached by Air/ Road. The road of Manali to Leh stays closed during winters due to excessive snowfall. The temperatures in winters will be sub-zero in Ladakh and may reach well below (-) 20 degrees Celsius in some places. Of course, we all have heard of Siachen Glacier. However, we can plan and make this dream come true. Road travel can be very exhausting and be irksome for some. You may plan to travel by road in a SUV or motorbikes with engines of at least 150cc and always in a group. (Though someone rode succesfully on a Honda Activa too). You will always need winter clothing when travelling by road ev...

Public Provident Fund (PPF)

PPF investment – Pros and Cons PPF had been a great investment option with a low risk and assured returns. The account can easily be opened with scheduled banks – SBI, ICICI, etc. and with the Post Offices. The account opening procedure is quite similar to that of opening a Savings Account. It is better than the fixed deposit interest rate which is 4.90% p.a. in SBI (w.e.f 10-09-2020 for 1 year term FD for General Public for deposit below INR 2 crores). Mobile Phone warranty denied

Sometimes, we face situations when we know we are being treated unfairly, but we're unable to do anything. This article is intended to bring forth the solutions to one such problem. It is not intended to malign anyone. My mobile phone died suddenly in sixth month of usage. As per the warranty conditions in India, the company provides warranty for one year on handset and for six months on accessories, and battery. I took it for repair  under warranty which I expected would be free of cost. The representative at service center took a cursory look at the phone and told me that it would cost me Rs 1800/- and there is physical damage to the charging port (broken). I suspected foul play (sixth sense or something) as the charging pin could not have been broken by me. It was observed that the charging port was actually BURNT and not broken. There were visible signs of melted plastic around the charging port when the back cover was opened. On showing this to the representative, I w...
